In these unprecedented times the Club has been faced with many decisions on how best to protect our members, our staff and our contractors from the likelihood of becoming exposed to the corona virus. There has been numerous measures implemented by the Club and also the measures imposed upon us by the authorities. These have all been complied with to the best of our ability and have come at great cost to our normal activities, our staffing and business arrangements and our financial model.
Since the forced closure of the club’s premises we have lost our capacity to operate our sporting facilities with the comfort of being able to ensure that the services are in compliance with the elevated health and safety measures that are in place and certainly we have lost the density of operational capacity to ensure that the measures imposed on us by the authorities are being met.
Accordingly we have made the very hard decision to cease all golf, tennis and pool operations from close of business on 24.03.2020.
In addition to the matters above the impacts on attendance volumes already and the onerous guidance from the various sports peak bodies makes continued operations unviable. The announcement of the closure of the QLD border taking effect at midnight on the 25th will also doubtless reduce further participation rates and of course many people are wisely following the Prime Minister’s instructions not to undertake non-essential activities and to the stay at home unless there is a valid reason to leave that safety. There are also legal uncertainties about the club’s role in continuing with these activities at this time.
On balance the hard decision to close the facilities was the only option. These matters have been the subject of consultations with the contractors in all of these facilities during last evening and today and we are now in a position to notify you as our members as they discuss the implications with their staff.
To membership, the following is an extract from our all member advice of yesterday which sets out how we intend to deal with membership of both the Club and internal Clubs during this event.
This is indeed disappointing for all involved but these are unique times and we will continue to act with the issue of member and stakeholder safety at the forefront of our decisions. Accordingly we trust that you will continue to support your club and we look forward to welcoming you back as soon as possible.
