At the Golf Management Committee meeting last night, Mike Flanagan advised that due to a decline in his health it was necessary for him to resign as Men’s Captain.
Mike has made a substantial contribution to the administration of Club Banora Golf. He is a foundation member of the Club Banora Golf Club, taking on the first Men’s Representative position when the Club was formed in July 2011. He was previously a committee member of the predecessor Twin Towns Men’s Golf Club.
From 2012 until yesterday, Mike served the Golf Club as Men’s Captain with a few short breaks due to health reasons.
The Men’s Golf program has grown under Mike’s leadership and members enjoy a well-balanced competition schedule that includes a range of honour board championship events. Over the past 5 years, competition management has improved through greater use of the computer system, most obviously with the use of scorecards that have pre-printed Golflink numbers and handicaps also hole by hole score entry that assists results preparation and shortens time to presentation. Importantly Mike was a good educator and has transferred his knowledge to a strong base of Sub Committee members that very capably collate and report competition results each Wednesday and Saturday. Particular thank you to Mike Mills and Clint Dunn who have carried the lion’s share of computer system operation with Mike.
Mike, thank you for what you have contributed to Club Banora Golf and we all wish you well in the days and years ahead.
Men’s Representative, Wayne Muir has also assisted with managing the Men’s program and took a lead role with organising the Pennant wining 2016 Men’s teams.
Wayne has agreed to take on the position of Men’s Captain and was appointed by the Golf Management Committee.
A regular morning player, Wayne is a very experienced golfer and plays in A Grade. He is familiar with our golf computer software and looking forward to the new Captaincy challenge.
