Graeme & Jennifer Malley Sunday Sponsors

Today’s medley competition was the testing 4BBB Aggregate.

Thank you to sponsors Graeme and Jennifer Malley (below) who provided a generous prize pool. Much appreciated.

Congratulations to Danny and Mary Minogue who were today’s clear winners, by a significant margin of 12 Points. Both played to their handicap or better which was a demanding effort in the often gusting wind. Mary was outstanding contributing 45 Points to the aggregate score. The 13th Hole was a highlight of the day where Mary and Dan each Pared the hole, Mary for 5 Points! and Dan for 3 Points – eight on the hole. Team Minogue had six 6 Pointers and a back nine of 46 Points that sealed their win. Wonderful day guys – well done.

Runner Up went to Perc Dempsey and Doreen Leopold with 72 Points. Both handled the conditions well and each player contributed a solid 17 Points to their card on the outward nine. The second nine was stronger with a total of 38 Points that included 6 Pointers at the 16th and 17th Holes. Nice team round, congratulations.

Below Alan Simpson is still smiling after his Eagle at the 1st Hole. Nice striking of the ball. Well done Alan.

Popular Saturday Winners in Large Field

Saturday’s Stableford competition attracted a large 90s plus field on a day where the Club remembered our Vietnam Veterans. Thanks to the Pro Shop for ensuring all interested members gain a tee time and also to members for removing their name from the timesheet when the cannot play. There are currently some issues with deleting from the competition on-line and these issues are being worked through with our computer system supplier.

With some notable exceptions, the scoring was generally low 3 Putt Club members with 30 Points received more Two Bobs than they paid out.

The Division 1 Rundown went to 34 Points and Division 2 to 35 Points although not all in.

Thank you to our Vietnam Veterans for their sponsorship of the special Vets competition and for a celebration drink with members.

The Vets competition was won by the hard work Club Veterans Sub Committee member, Dave Harrod with a good score of 38 Points. Dave was very strong on the outward nine scoring a 4 Pointer and four 3 Pointers for a total of 23 Points. This start set Dave for his Vets Competition win and also Runner Up in Division 2. Terrific day Dave, well done. Below Dave (right) is in good spirits after receiving the perpetual trophy from Men’s Captain, Mike Flanagan (left).

The best score of the day was returned by one of the Club’s gentlemen-by-nature, Les Isbell (right below). Captain, Mike (left below) noted that Les’ win in Division 2 was a very popular one and at Presentation Les said it was good to be a winner again after a three-year drought where some other matters had dominated over golf. Les started slowly and missed on the 1st Hole but immediately bounced back stringing together the next 5 holes for 15 Points including a 4 Pointer at the 4th Hole. Les collected 19 Points for the first nine and then produced and even stronger back nine of 23 Points which included another string of 3 Pointers – four at Holes 12 through 15 and a 3 Pointer at the 18th Hole. Congratulations Les, on your good round and win.

The biggest prize tally of the day went to Division 1 winner, Michael McKay who playing off 15 Handicap, had a Birdie at the 4th Hole and three Pars on each nine for 41 Points. The cream on the prize cake was Michael’s swing at the 3rd Hole which provided NTP and the coveted ProPin of $90. Terrific day Michael well done.

Division 1 Runner Up was playing partner Mike (Macca) McGuiness who scored 38 Points. Macca scored on every hole and started and ended his round with a 3 Pointer. The consistency of the round was reflected in the 19 Points each side of the card. Congratulations of taking home a voucher.

By the way the group also included Men’s Captain, Mike who had a solid 37 Points.

Noticed that none of the Division 2 players hit the 2nd Hole green. It was tuff into the strong breeze.

6th Fairway Bunker Upgraded

Thank you to head greenkeeper Rodger Scott and his team for an upgrade to the 6th Fairway bunker.

Stones that formed a base to the bunker were mixed into the sand and stones often came in contact with clubs used to play out of the bunker.

The following photo shows the new clean sand, free of stones.

Rodger also advises that he will be seeking a meeting with our Captains to discuss and plan course refurbishment works that will take place towards the end of Autumn.
