Alan Simpson Sensational Mid-Week

The pleasant winter’s day attracted a good size field of 76 players to the Mid-Week Stableford Competition.

The competition was dominated by Alan Simpson who shot 2 over Par for the day and played by far his best round in 2016. In a sensational outing Alan had 3 Birdies and eleven Pars that generated 23 Points on each side of the card – 46 Points. He also took home the NTP prize at the 2nd Hole. Alan’s long hitting was accurate and putting consistent on a great day out. Congratulations Alan (left) who can be seen below celebrating with playing partner John Edwards (right) after the round.

Division 1 Runner Up was Club Treasurer, Ray Tume who has played handicap or better golf during June. He started the month with 38 Points, has a square round in last week’s verses Par and today scored a very creditable 40 Points. The last 12 holes were the highlight of his round today where he produced 30 Points including six 3 Pointers in a back nine of 23 Points. Good one Ray.

Also on 40 Points was Jared Brown who topped the Rundown list from Division 1. Jared started with a 3 Pointer and added six more to his card that showed 20 Points on each side. Jared is still enjoying his first up Pennant win as a member of our successful team. Well done Jared.

Division 2 Winner, Owen Snelling was also in the 40 Points club with a 4 Pointer and six 3 Pointers. Owen had 19 Points on the first nine and 21 Points coming back that included NTP at the 16th Hole. Congratulations on a great day out.

Also pleased with his round was Ray Walker who had two 4 Pointers on the outward nine and four 3 Pointers on the second nine in a total of 38 Points. Well done on taking home a voucher.

Congratulations to all those in the Rundown that went down to 35 Points.

Tim Deacon was in the Rundown with 36 Points that included two Birdies, NTP at the 3rd Hole and the coveted Pro Pin worth $60. Good one Tim.

Finish of 2016 Northern Rivers Districts Ladies Pennant Season

Steve Wilkinson Dominates Vets Day

Congratulations to Steve Wilkinson for his outstanding performance today that included both the Division 1 win and two NTPs, at the 7th and 16th Holes. Steve had 44 Stableford Points made up of 23 out and 21 back including a 4 Pointer on each nine. Great day Steve.

Three other players joined Steve in the 40 Points range – Division 1 Runner Up, Ray Mills and Division 2 Winner Ron White also Wayne Howlett who topped the Run down list. Nice rounds guys.

Ray who can be relied on to play consistent Golf and he did just that. He has 20 points on each nine which included two Birdies on each nine. That gave him a very impressive line on the Birdies Leader Board. Well done Ray.

Ron also scored 20 Points on each nine off a great start with 5 for 4 on the 1st Hole. Four 3 pointers on the back nine sealed a good day. Terrific Ron, great to see you played well.

Wayne was out of the main prizes but had a great first nine of 23 Points and matched Steve for the best nine of the day. After the turn Wayne continued to score strongly and added a further 11 Points in the next four holes. A wipe was followed by 3 Points meant Wayne was still in contention after 15 holes. Well done Wayne – got to be happy with 40 Points.

Notice Bill Harris also had 23 Points, on the back nine.  Well done Bill.

Sunday Golf Warm on a Cold Day

The warmth of Sunday Golf was evident at 4pm as members waited for Presentation even if the day had been grey and cool / cold.  It was, as usual, a near full Sunday field for the team 4BBB competition.

Early out teams of Max Jessop & Pauline Ryan and John Skerry & Colleen Kelly set a good standard of 43 Points for other teams to chase.

Strong performance by the ladies in each of the teams Culpitt (Roy & Bev) and McFadden (Barry & June) moved the bench mark to 44 Points.

Team Cooper (Keith & Maren) then set a new mark which appeared to be the winning score as they waited as Club House leaders. Keith proved that he had not forgotten his skills during his eight week break and combined with Maren to return a very creditable 45 Points.

Their lead lasted until the last cards of the day were entered into the system. Barry and Bev Jurd, celebrating recent birthdays including a 0’ty one to Barry, survived the cold and near dark conditions to score the best result of the day – 46 Points. Great result guys. Barry (right) seen below with Bev (left) and Vice President Rosie Connolly (centre) said at Presentation that he and Bev were thrilled with their win as it was the first time that they had achieved this outcome in a 4 Ball competition. Congratulations team Jurd.

At Presentation Keith (centre below) said it was great to be back playing again and very much enjoyed the day out with Maren (right) and playing partners Stewart & Denise Melling.

Well done to all the teams in the Rundown to 42 Points.

Good golfing to our ladies pennant players (three from today’s competition – Denise Culpitt, Penny Martlew, June McFadden) who compete in the Northern Rivers home and away season, final round at Kyogle tomorrow.

Got to love Sunday Golf.

Men’s 4BBB v Par Competition Close

(Reissued Post)

A Queensland quality mid-Winter day that was quite warm out of the light breeze attracted a good size field of 89 players for the 4BBB verses Par competition today. The event was a qualifier for the NSW Keno 4BBB Championship. Players found the course back to its high standard and mostly dried out from the recent flooding and heavy rain. Some visitors were overheard speaking about the good quality of our bunkers. The course is a credit to Rodger and his team. Thanks guys you’ve done a good job for the golfers.

At Presentation, the Men’s Captain, Mike Flanagan reminded members that next week is the qualifier for A, B & C GRADE MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016. To promote the Championship all members playing on 2 July will be able to play for free. The Championship Conditions were provided to members on 2 June and can be seen at the link below.

There was a log jam at the top of the Leader Board today with four teams returning a +9 score – Neil Hourigan & Wayne Stone, Alan Simpson & Daniel Minogue, Mike Mills & Mike Flanagan and Mick Kemp & Richard Downes.

Mick and Richard set the day’s standard with +5 out and +4 in. They were the Club House leaders after the morning field and retained the lead until the 4th last group when team Simpson & Minogue moved past them with a better count back on the homeward nine. Their lead was short lived as they were over taken two groups later by team Hourigan & Stone who had a sensational back nine of +7.

Congratulations to winners Neil (right) and Wayne (centre) pictured below with Captain Mike Flanagan (left), responding at Presentation. Neil and Wayne teamed well and were +3 through the first 6 holes. A miss at the 7th saw the team turn at +2. Their back nine started with two +s but it was the last five holes where they shared adding +s to the card that sealed their count back win.

Alan (left) and Dan (right) below, took home the Runner Up voucher with a strong back nine of +6. Well done guys.

The two Mike’s played their best golf on the front nine where they scored plus on 7 holes and reached +9 after 12 Holes. They got to +10 after the 17th Hole before a minus at the last.

The two Mike’s joined Mick and Richard at the top of the Rundown list and can be seen below back in the Golf office carrying out their Men’s Sub Committee duties after the Presentation.

Well done to all the teams on +9 and also to the teams on the Rundown list which went to +7.

Congratulations to today’s NTP winners who each received two balls.
