Robert Hedger – First Vets Win

Well done to the 64 Vets who played Stroke Golf today, again under the idea conditions of recent weeks. It is difficult to realise winter officially starts tomorrow.

At Presentation, Vice Captain Dave Harrod said, he thought those that played the usual Stableford competition also enjoyed the day.

Dave welcomed back Cliff Henderson who prefers the Club Banora winter to his New Zealand homeland alternate. Good to catch up and thanks for the smoked trout. It’s always a treat.

Round of the day went to Robert Hedger who scored 95 off the stick for a Nett 65. It was Robert’s first Vets win and his best competition round since he joined our Club at the end of 2015.

Robert started steadily then struck the ball well at Holes 6 & 7 for back to back Pars. His back nine was even stronger and included another Par at the 14th Hole. Congratulation Robert, shown below receiving his winner’s voucher from Dave.

Well done also to C Grade Runner Up, Robert Giles who was one shot further back with a Nett 66. Robert who plays off 34 Handicap was extremely consistent across the entire round which is a great credit to any player in a Stroke competition. Nice play Robert.

Robert was Runner Up on count back over Bill Ward to played great golf on 17 of the 18 Holes. Extra strokes at the 16th Hole masked Bill’s very good round. Good one Bill.

Congratulations to Rod Jackson who was the B Grade winner. Rod had 5 Pars and played 12 of the Holes in the score range 3 to 5 strokes. Good consistent round Rod, nice day out.

Rod is pictured below receiving his winner’s voucher from Dave. Vets at Presentation asked that today’s photo be confirmed as different to the one taken two weeks ago when Rod was also winner. Good one Rod.

B Grade Runner Up was a very tight competition determined on count back between Terry Schofield, Ron White and Dave Harrod, all on a handicap breaking Nett 69. Well done guys.

The Runner Up voucher went to Terry pictured below with Dave. Terry had 6 Pars and played his best golf on the important back nine. Ron and Dave can take plenty of satisfaction from their even play across their rounds.

A Grade winner was the ever consistent Joe Lehkyj with Nett 67. Joe played good golf throughout May collecting his second winner/runner up voucher today to add to his May four rundown prizes. He also produced some solid pennant play wins in May. Joe had a Birdie and 8 Pars today. Congratulations on your play Joe.

A Grade Runner Up was Wayne Howlett with a steady 5 Par round for a Nett score of 69. Good golf Wayne, well done. Wayne was in good spirit receiving his prize voucher and can be seen enjoying the today’s celebration with Ken Tilbrook (centre).

Vets are reminder that next Monday, 6 June tee times are moved forward 15 minutes to accommodate the Ladies Pennant play that follows the Vets competition.

Please anticipate that the Pro Shop will change playing group order if members arrive late.

Sunday Hole-In-One to Ladies 2015 Club Champion

The Ladies 2015 Club Champion, Kaye Mills played the ultimate shot at the 7th Hole today using a 7 Wood. The Pin was shielded by the large front bunker and Kaye along with playing partners searched for the ball before looking in the hole was considered. Congratulations Kaye as you add to your ever growing Hole-In-One certificate collection. Kaye is appears below responding at Presentation and displaying her new Eagle Badge.

The Ladies competition winner was a tight contest between the Ladies Captain, Denise Culpitt and Sub Committee member, Galemaree Dawes who both scored 42 Stableford Points. Denise played her best golf in months with a two over Par first nine of 38 which achieved 24 Points. Denise had a Birdie and five Pars then added 3 more Pars on the back nine. Galemaree scored 10 Pars including six on the important back nine which gave her the count back win. Below Galemaree (right) takes much joy receiving her winner’s prize from Vice President, Rosie Connolly (left).

Kaye (leader), Galemaree and Denise are in the mix at the top of the 2016 Ladies Club Championship which has its second round on Thursday.

The Men’s winner was Bernard Andersen with 41 Points. He played solid but not outstanding golf through the first seven holes when his game turned. Playing in the four with Kaye, Bernard had helped look for Kaye’s ball. The energy of the Hole-In-One transferred to Bernie’s game and he then scored 3 Pointers at the next three holes. One Point at the 11th Hole was followed by 4 Points at the 12th Hole and a new series 3 Pointers, finishing the back nine with 22 Points. Great golf Bernard, congratulations on your win.

The Men’s Runner Up was determined on count back and John Edwards took home the prize voucher. John continues to score well despite his handicap shrinking. Max Jessop was tied with John on 37 Points and played his best golf on the outward nine which carried less weight in the count back. Nice play John and Max – well done.

Great to see Adam Bee in the Rundown for the first time this month. Well done Adam seen below receiving his Rundown prize.

Men’s Membership continues to grow and today’s Par competition field was into the nineties. Members are reminded that the Pro Shop will help find a playing time if the Tee Time sheet appears full. Thanks Barry.

Long term member, Dan Atkins returned the best score of the day, +7. It was by far his best performance in the past 4 years. Dan played outstanding golf from the first tee and had 4 Pluses in the first 5 Holes. He completed his first nine without a minus and a score of +5. Dan added two more Pluses at the 10th & 11th Holes then played balanced golf. Sensational day out Dan, well done. Dan (right) receives his winner’s prize from Committee Men’s Rep and Vice Captain, Wayne Muir (left).

Division 2 Runner Up was Allan Boan at +6. Allan started with a Plus then matched Nett Par through the next four Holes. He played very good golf at the next three Holes and finished the first nine at +4. Allan also played very consistent golf on the back nine. The inform duo of John Edwards and Richard Quine dominated Division 1.

John took home the winner’s voucher with a +6 score. He started quietly through the first six Holes and was -1. John’s game then ramped up as he Birdied the Par 3, 7th Hole. Below John (right) receives his winning prize from Wayne (left). John’s impressive prize ledger list for the month of May is also shown.

Richard played well to be Runner Up and used his new golf sticks with great affect. Richard is hitting the ball further with each Club and turned this outcome into strong scores on the competition card. He played solidly during the first nine and turned even with the card. It was his back nine that the value of the new clubs came most into play as he had a Birdie and four Pars. Another good day Richard, seen below receiving his Runner-Up prize from Wayne.

Congratulations to all NTP winners. They were very close on all holes. Garry Cary’s shot at the 3rd Hole was no exception and absolutely deserving of the Pro Pin prize. Well done Garry and to all NTP winners.

Today was another terrific autumn golf day at Club Banora although some early morning players needed a light jacket for the first time as winter draws close.

Congratulations to Roy Culpitt for today’s best score of 43 Stableford Points. Not bad a few days short of your 88th birthday! Roy scored a 4 Pointer on each nine along with seven 3 Pointers. Well done on your two strong nines of 23 and 20 Points.

Division 1 Winner was James Cardoo who continues his recent good form with 41 Points today. James started steadily through the first three holes then upped the tempo with five Pars in the next six holes to turn on 21 Points. His back nine was also very strong with a further six Pars. Great golf James, congratulations. Below Roy (left) and James (right) share the joy of their successful day.

Peter played his best back nine golf on the last six holes that determined the count back.

NTP shot of the day went to Joe Lehkyj at the 16th Hole, shown below. Well done also Joe on being in the Rundown and for your good pennant win on Sunday.

The coveted Pro Pin was won by John Edwards who is rapidly losing his ‘I-never-win’ title as he continues to write entries in the Prize Ledger each time he plays. Good one John. John finished with 38 Points and was well in the Rundown.

Also notable was 4 Birdies by Tim Deacon – at 6th, 7th, 14th and 18th Holes. Stand out on the Leader Board and great play.

Perc Dempsey & Kaye Mills – Sunday Golf Winners

Thank you to the Pro Shop for finding a place for all Sunday Golfers. Another full field plus competed in today’s single Stableford competition.

The Men’s Competition was won by Perc Dempsey with 40 Points on count back over Colin Owers who was a visitor from Howlong in the Murray District region.

Percy enjoys his Sunday golf and played very solid golf through the first nine to turn on 20 Points. He electrified his round at the 10th Hole with a 5 Point Birdie (Nice one Perc), lost a little momentum at the 12th then steadied adding two more 3 Pointer to achieve a second 20 Points nine. Prec below responds after receiving the Winners voucher from Vice President, Rosie Connolly.

Colin was all over the Banora layout from the 1st Tee with 3 Points at the 1st & 2nd Hole then a 4 Points Birdie at the 5th Hole followed by Par for 3 Points at the 6th and another 3 Pointer at the 9th Hole for 23 Points outward. His round slowed at little at 10 & 11 but then the 3 Point scoring return for 3 of the next 4 holes. Three Points at the 18th Hole was a very fitting finish to his Banora day.

Nice golf Perc and Colin – great Sunday.

The Ladies Competition was won by Club Champion, Kaye Mills with a terrific 41 Points off 13 Handicap. Kaye had 3 Pars in her outward nine and turned on the 18 Point standard. Her second nine made the round as she played near perfect golf to be only 2 over Par for the nine (2 Birdies & 3 Pars) which translated to 23 Points. Congratulations Kaye on your good form only a few days out from the 2016 Ladies Championship.

Kaye (right) below responds at Presentation with winner’s voucher in hand.

She added 3 more Pars on the back nine including a 4 Pointer at the 15th Hole. A highlight of the day was the Eagle at the 18th Hole by John Edwards. John hit one of his longer drives that took him to about 150 meters out mid fairway. His approach was a text book swing that left the ball only a few centimeters away. Below John stands proudly next to his shot and can be heard explaining at Presentation that he was able to sink the putt. Excellent John!

The Committee and members wish all Ladies good vibes from the golfing god as they participate in the 2016 Ladies Championship which commences on Thursday. Enjoy!
