Congratulations to Stewart and Denise Melling for their sponsorship and definition of today’s Ambrose event. Normal partner combinations were NOT the order of the day and the variation was clearly enjoyed by the majority, if not all of the field. There was a special ‘keenness’ by players!
All competition timeslots plus one were filled (thank you Pro Shop) and the presentation attracted more than half the field despite the threatening weather which dropped 30 mls of water on the course as the prizes were being given out.
The winners were Brad Wilkinson and visitor (friend of Club Banora) from Casino Tracey Simpson (between sponsors in photo below, Vice President and Sunday Presenter Rosie Connolly – far left). Their card showed very solid golf including three birdies. At Presentation Tracey said she enjoyed the day and in any discussion credited Brad’s long hitting. Brad missed the presentation due to his commitment to the family business, Galileo’s Pizza which has been a significantly sponsor of Club Banora Golf.
The Danny Minogue / Daph Anderson finish a quarter of, but significant part, shot back as Runner Up. Daph continued her strong performance from Thursday where she was winner on Ladies opening day and Danny continues to play good golf after his recent hole-in-one. Terrific golf – oh so close!
Insider knowledge allows recognition of sponsors Denise Melling whose putting was very good (not restricted to other pluses) and Stewart who struck some great shots including clutch putts. His playing partner Denise M Culpitt also played the good golf that she contributed to her partnership with Daph in winning the Ladies open day team competition.
Beyond the scores and the other numbers, todays winners were those members who enjoyed the fellowship of Sunday Golf. See you next week.

Thank you to course management for allowing mostly ‘normal’ playing arrangements today.
The overcast conditions with a little light rain reduced the field size from 98 to still significant 82 players. Well done to all members who played today.
Current Club Champion, Michael Wood achieved his first 2016 win with 37 points on count back over Terry Foster who continues to play solid golf. At Presentation Michael said it was the first time he had played to his handicap since he had eased out from 4. Michael (centre) can be seen below celebrating with his dad, James (right) and playing partner Geoff Clarke (front left). The Gentlemen’s Three Putt Secretary, Neil Hourigan (back left) takes time out from the day’s business to share Michael’s success.
Gary Scott recorded the best Nett round of the day and his Division 2 win that was a first for him this year. Gary was consistent through the varying wind / rain conditions of the round and entitled to be pleased with dominate performance. Playing partners (Jim Cardoo (front left), Ray Wixey (back left) and Jim Storey (right)) were keen to share the revelry of Gary’s (centre) win as seen below.
Well done to Laurence Pettinari with 36 points and Division 2 Runner Up on count back over Terry Trevitt and Gary Pettit who also played well.
Mike Grills took home the sizable ProPin voucher – nice work Mike.
Special mention of Men’s Sub Committee members Clint Dunn and Mike Mills for their timely compilation and presentation of results. Great team work guys and well done to Clint for his popular MCing of the presentation. Ron White rounded out the success of the day’s competition management with his raffle organisation. Winner guys.
Great day was had by all who played. Unfortunately the weather was very overcast and some players came in quite wet by the end of their game. Fifty eight ladies played which was pleasing to see in quite difficult conditions. The game was a team of four best three scores to count and our winners must have found the conditions to their liking. They were Bev Culpitt Denise M Culpitt Daphne Andersen and Margaret Meekings with a great score of 122. Runners up were Nancy Douglas Diane Hughes Desley Harrington and Judy McQuillan with 120.
A reminder that the Special Events entries are now open and close on the 10th February 2016. Forms are available in Pro Shop near computers or from Myra Biggar. Please place your money in yellow envelope and into the ladies blue tin in Pro Shop. Any queries please do not hesitate to contact me on 07 55231972
CAPTAIN OLGA LITTLE
The best score today was recorded by Greg Seymour at 42 points (terrific after a wipe at the 1st) making him Division 2 Winner. Phil Coles was next best with 40 points (set up with 22 points outward) and the Division 1 win. Congratulations to the winners.
Two players Michael Mills (3) and Tony Brown (2) scored five birdies between them on a day where there were only two other birdies, one by Danny Minogue and one by Perc Dempsey. Dominate effort guys!
Michael and Tony each next on the Leader Board with the popular score of 37 Stableford points. Others on that score were Ken Culpitt, Ken Mount, Bill McClatchey and John Lane. Ken Mount’s 37 points resulted him being runner up in Division 1.
Tony Brown’s birdies at the 15th and 17th contributed two 4 pointers in his important back nine 22 points and placed him runner up in Division 2, one point clear of Michael Mills with a back nine of 21. Mike had four 4 pointers – two each nine, at the 1st, 7th, 12th and 16th.
Also of note was Peter Wazlawek extending his listings in the Prize Ledger with the valuable ProPin voucher at the 3rd. Good on you Peter.
Three players won NTP prizes at the 3rd today.
The mostly overcast day with little or no breeze provided a perfect day for Veterans Golf.
Tables in the Halfway were well over three quarters occupied in the lead up to the presentation and special thank you to Ros for her behind-the-counter service to the large group.
The field numbered in the 70s and 9 Vets scored 40 Stableford points or more. Seven players scored 41 points!
The count back rule determined the majority of the prizes.
After consistent performance in recent weeks Keith Cooper made every shot a winner today and took home the major A Grade prize along with being top of the overall Leader Board. Well done Keith (right) who can be seen below receiving his winners voucher from Vets Sub Committee member Wayne Martlew (left).
41 allowed Colin Norton to be runner up in A Grade.
In B Grade both John Gilroy and Arthur Elkington returned 41 point cards which showed John having the stronger crucial second nine and being the winner. Congratulations to both John and Arthur for your terrific rounds.
Four players scored 41 points in C Grade, Bill Harris, Laurie Kavanagh, Michael Davey and Hayden Gilbank. The countback system determined Bill as winner and Laurie runner-up leaving two strong rounds at the top of the rundown list. Four great rounds guys.
Dave Harrod also played very well with 40 points and was in the rundown which went to 37.
Great to see Les Isbell on the NTP and birdie list at the 16th. Below Les is focused on the presentation announcements.
The Saturday 23 January competition attracted a large field despite the warning of a server afternoon storm and a mid-morning shower.
Wayne Stone turned in the round of the day with 43 Stableford points including 4 points at the 7th with an ever-so-close to hole in one. Wayne is shown below surveying the outcome of a very good golf shot.
Jim Wood also played well to win Division 2 with 40 points and Michael McKay matched the 40 points for Runner Up in Division 1.
Next on the Leader Board were Ray Mills, James Cardoo and Clint Dunn all on 38 points.
Good job by Men’s Sub Committee member Clint for MCing the day’s presentation in the absence of Men’s Captain, Max Jessop. Clint and Mike Mills do a terrific job each week contributing to the assembly of the competition results and Ron White made his valuable contribution to managing the day’s raffle.
It was good to see Peter Waslawek’s name added to the Prize Ledger for the first time with an NTP at the 3rd. Good one Peter.
Congratulations to Danny Minogue who played the ultimate tee shot to the 16th, his third Hole-In-One – all at Club Banora. His playing partners called the HI1 as the ball took two hops before falling in the cup. Danny can be seen below celebrating with his partners and friends at the end of the round. Danny is to the right of Jim Storey [NTP at 7] (in green) and Tony Brown (in red) who were playing partners. Danny ‘cleaned up’ on the day winning the Eagles Nest along with his HI1 and the NTP. His tee shot at 16 helped him record the best score of the day – 41 Stableford points and gain the winners voucher. Danny generously distributed highly prized Chrome Callaway balls from his Eagle Nest win to his playing partners. Nice gesture Danny! Danny also takes home a bottle of spirt of his choice for the Hole-In-One and will get to relive his terrific 6 Iron shot again at the Christmas function when he, along with other 2016 Hole-In-One scorers, will receive their Hole-In-One Certificates.
Danny’s day overshadowed, a little, the super performance of his friend Keith Cooper – one of nature’s gentleman, who played a very strong round (23 points outward) and took home the significant ProPin prize and Runner Up voucher. Well done Keith for your good golf and prize pool bootie – great day.
Division 2 was also very competitive with Committee Member, Barry Jurd topping the Leader Board scoring 40 points and winning on countback over John Lane who also had an exceptional day.
Thankyou to members for their participation in Wednesday Golf and to the ProShop for ensuring that all interest members are allocated a Tee Time.
