Mid-Week 4 Ball Match Play Champions

Congratulations to mid-week 4 Ball Match Play – Cock of The Walk – Champions Bjarne Sorensen and David Kammer for their thrilling win in the final over Graeme Baker and Mick Davey.

Bjarne can be seen below proudly displaying his Championship trophy. Bjarne said he enjoyed the match play competition and looks forward to playing in more competitions with David when he returns from overseas.

Well done to all teams who qualified for the mid-week Championship event.

Golf Secretary Position Vacant

Our Secretary, Richard Quine advised the Golf Management Committee that due to issues which have arisen he will be unable to continue in the role as Secretary.

Richard made an important contribution during his time as Secretary.    He stepped in as Secretary at a critical time and helped through a period of transition.  His effort is much appreciated.

Richard demonstrated a strong ability to understand issues confronting the Golf Club and Committee and had a good memory for the context and decisions taken by the Committee.  He was a big contributor to ensuring that the Committee acted in a consistent way for all Golf Club members.

Thank you for your contribution.

Patrick Hayes achieves Hole-In-One at 11th and Ray Mills Eagled 18th Today

Congratulations to Patrick Hayes who hit the ultimate tee shot at the 11th Hole today. An A Grade player and long term member who prefers the early morning starts, achieved his first hole in one today. Nice one Patrick.

Patrick received the 6 ball Hole-In-One prize from Veterans Captain, Wayne Howlett and members look forward to seeing Patrick presented with the mounted ball and a bottle of spirit courtesy of Twin Towns and their beverage provider Diageo. He will line up for a Hole-In-One certificate at the Veteran’s Christmas Party.

Single figure golfer, Ray Mills added another eagle to his list of achievements today, at the 18th Hole. After what he considered an ‘ordinary’ drive, Ray played a nicely positioned 8 Iron and then proceeded to run his chip into the hole. Wayne noted the achievement at the presentation to the delight of all at the presentation. Well done Ray.

Wayne also had the pleasure of recognising the fine playing round of Stuart Irving who playing off 19, scored 46 Stableford points. Wayne noted that Stuart played to a single figure for the day, a terrific effort especially considering the windy conditions.

Veteran’s Golf remains strong at Club Banora.

Shot of the Day

Shot of the day goes to our Membership Officer, Diane Hughes.

Her second shot at the 10th went right. The good news is that it was not lost!

Concerned that striking the ball either by an overhead ‘tennis’ shot or heaven forbid standing on the buggy to reach the ball, Diane opted to declare the ball unplayable.

Good call Diane.

2015 Veterans Invitation Day Results

Thank you to all the Club Banora and District Veterans who supported our 2015 Veterans Open Day. Well done also to the large field for keeping the Shotgun round flowing smoothly. It was a perfect day for playing golf and on a well-groomed course. The winning scores reflect good golf play under the favourable conditions.

Strong individual performances resulted in 28 players receiving a prize or a ball in the rundown. The Veterans Captain, Wayne Howlett and his sub-committee are to be congratulated on their management of the day and especially for the substantial prize schedule. The Club Banora Golf Club is well supported for prizes by North Estate at Tweed Heads and Galileo’s Pizza at Banora Point. The Northern Rivers District day also includes a two district sponsored $25 prize draws for non winning visitors.  Congratulations to Doug Hudson and S Lowndes for each collecting a $25 voucher.

The competition for the remaining five prizes was very tight as 7 players were placed within 3 shots.

Well done to Mike Grills who finished 2nd on count back over Hayden Gilbank, both with a score of 41.

Below Mike receives his Runner Up prize from the Vets Captain.

2015VetsOpenDay3rd

Third placed Haydon is congratulated by Veterans Sub Committee member, Wayne Matlew as the Vets Captain gets ready to present his prize.

2015OpenDayRunnerUp

Fourth place went to former Veterans Sub Committee member, Kevin Casey who now lives in Tasmania. Kevin’s trip to the sunny north provided him with the opportunity to catch up with old friends, play good golf and be on the winners list. Well done Kevin.

5th and 6th place prizes went to Dave Wallis (centre left) and Rodney Jackson (far left) seen below being congratulated by the two Waynes. Good job guys.

Outstanding Score by Ladies Monthly Medal Winner – Kerry Campbell

Congratulations to Kerry Campbell for her substantial Division 1 Monthly Medal win.   It was Kerry’s first Monthly Medal win during her long membership at Club Banora.  The Ladies Captain, Olga Little spoke kindly of Kerry’s round at the presentation.  Well done to Runner Up, June McFadden who had a very good round and played well inside her handicap but like the rest of the field was no match for Kerry outstanding round.

Kerry can be seen below receiving her gold broach from sponsor Muriel Murray.

Ladies Representative, Myra Biggar, said ‘Kerry’s win was Big – a  Magnificent  Nett 63  Great Achievement  Well  done.’
