4 Ball Competition Handicapping

At the Golf Committee meeting on 28 April, the issue of handicapping 4 Ball Best Ball events was considered.  The discussion was led by the Club Captains and there was consensus that it was important that a solution should be fair and equitable for all members.  In this context the Captains agreed to introduce single-in-conjunction competitions for 4 Ball events with the notable exceptions of Melbourne Cup day and Christmas Party days where no handicapping will occur.  Major events already promoted such as the Lady Captain’s Invitation Day will be played as advertised.

In a practical sense, for 4 Ball events, one card will be used by each team and individual player scores will be recorded on that card.  The hole by hole scores will be entered at the Pro Shop touch screen and the computer system will calculate the individual and team scores.  There will be a reduction in back room checking.  The recording of individual hole by hole scores allows the computer to automatically check points per hole and also to more accurately calculate count backs.  The leader board and website will consistently show correct results.

The Men’s and Ladies’ Member Representative supported the Captains advice on 4 Ball handicapping and the Committee was unanimous in its decision that the approach apply consistently to all our 4 Ball competitions.

Work at 15th Tee

Work continues on the new 15th Tee and members are anticipated to be playing from the new tee in early May. The Men’s Captain expects to be using the tee for the May monthly medal round.
