Sunday 29 June Results

The Sunday 29 June medley competition – Team of Four Stableford with Best 3 scores to count was played in ideal conditions and with the course providing the best run in weeks.

The competition was sponsored by Ross Telford, Kaye Mills, Judith Lawton and Cliff Henderson seen in order below reflecting on the day’s outcome shortly before presentation.

The sponsors are congratulated on the quality of their prizes and gifts and thanked for their support of the Club.

Scoring was mostly a little lower than might be expected with the exception of the winners who finished 10 points ahead of the runners up.

Well done to winners Roy, Bev, Don and Denise Culpitt. It was Roy’s second winner’s prize in two days and capped off a terrific weekend of Golf. At presentation Don commented that the team combined well and had well balanced front and back nines. Roy said that Don putted well with four long 3.5m plus putts adding useful points to their score card. Don also won Nearest The Pin at the second.

The winners in the front (Don, Denise, Bev and Roy in order) can be seen with the sponsors after receiving the winners prizes.

Runners Up went to Max Jessop, Pauline Ryan, Ruth and Warren Williams. Max and Pauline each won Nearest The Pins. Congratulations to the runners up. Well done also to Denise and Stewart Melling and Penny and Wayne Martlew beaten for runners up on count back.

In a very nice gesture that reflects the high regard that members have for Twin Towns’ staff member, Pam, sponsor Kaye took the opportunity to present Pam with a small gift. Kaye reflected on the high standard of service that Pam provides, not only on Sundays but on Ladies day Thursday and in fact every day. Pam is seen below with her gift of appreciation. Well done Pam.

The days full results are available from the On-line web page.

It was good to see the strong attendance at the presentation. Well done to all members.

28 June 4BBBB – First Up Win to New Member & Departure of Popular Member

Welcome to new member Dennis Jones and congratulations on your first up win with Roy Culpitt in today’s 4BBB.

Well done also to Vets Captain Wayne Howlett and Men’s Sub Committee worker Hayden Gilbank, runners up on count back.

Great to see Graham Church on a visit and playing with Gary Pettit who teamed to finish one shot back for the winners.  On the same playing score of 42 was morning regulars Barry McFadden and Bryan Penny.  Good to see Barry back on the course and always nice to be in a playing four with Bryan.

Special thank you to Men’s Pennant Captain, Nigel Luxton for his discussion on the 2014 Pennant Team success and also to the members who shared a drink with Nigel and the Men’s Pennant Team.

On a sad note the Club losses popular member (and Pennant Team member) Geoffrey Abbott who revealed in a very articulate way at presentation that for family reasons he is moving away from the local area.   Geoffrey is a long term member and friend to so many members.  The Men’s Captain like others affectionately referred to Geoffrey as ‘the serial pest’  a title that he capably responded to on the day’s he accepted competition prizes.  Members wish Geoffrey well with his future endeavours and will ensure there is always a time slot available when circumstances allow a return to Club Banora.

Members are thanked for their discussion on a compulsory stop after 9 and the importance of supporting the Half Way House.  Also a requirement for in-conjunction single competitions with team events particularly 4BBB was raised and well supported in discussion.  Very healthy discussion on issues and which will be discussed by the Men’s  Sub Committee.

Updated: Good Golfing to our Keno Golf NSW Mixed 4BBB Qualifiers

Good golfing to our qualifiers for the

All the best to John and Lis Edwards, Barry and June McFadden and Max Jessop and Pauline Ryan.

An update confirms that Wayne and Penny Martlew will play in place of John and Lis as John is off the golfing circuit mid late July.  Good golf to all.

Men’s Pennant Captain to speak at Presentation – 28 June

On Saturday, the Captain of the successful 2014 Men’s Pennant Team, Nigel Luxton, will outline to members the detail of our very good year in Men’s Pennants.

Please come to the 28 June presentation from about 4.15pm and enjoy the team’s success.

There will be an opportunity to discuss with team members the memorable moments of the 2014 season over a cold (or hot) drink.

Club Sub Committee Man Makes Ace on 3RD

Congratulations to Wayne Martlew for acing the 3rd Hole today during our Stableford aggregate competition.

Well done Wayne.  Also thanks for your effort on the Vets and Men’s Sub Committees over many years.

Wayne said

‘ I normally hit my 6 Hybrid but today took my 5 Wood because of where the Blue Tee was. I saw the hit on line and it disappeared into the shadow around the Pin.

Stewart Melling my playing partner said he thought the ball hit the Pin and Ray Tume also on the Tee said it was in the shadow.

When we reached the green the ball could not be seen, the hole was the only place to look.

This is my third Hole-In-One but my first in competition play.

The mounted ball will look good on our mantle piece or it’s going straight to the Pool Room.’

Sunday 22 June – the Denise Culpitt Show

Members were unable to recall a day when one player so dominated on a Sunday.

With the equinox hardly past Club Banora was treated to very warm early autumn conditions that included a short rain shower. The day was ideal for golf. It was good to see past Club Match Play Champion, Dan Parish back on the playing roster after seven months on parental duties. Welcome back Dan.

The Sunday field enjoyed the mixed Four Ball Best Ball competition. As the players completed their loop of the course those that chose to look at the Par 3 NTPs observed that Denise Culpitt was having a terrific day with her name on two nearest the pins within 5cm and another about 1.5m away.

She went on to win all three NTPs but this was only the tip of the iceberg. Her scorecard showed that after a solid first nine she proceeded to Par the first 7 Holes on the back nine, missing Par at the 17th by less than 60cm and at the 18th by a 2 ball width. Two over – not bad for a player off 14! This was one of the best ever nines played by a Ladies’ Member at Club Banora.  Terrific effort Denise!

Not surprisingly she and partner Ken were two shot winners on the day. Denise and Ken can be seen below receiving their winner’s prize from the Club Vice President, Rosie Connolly (left) who presents on Sunday’s.

Danny and Mary Minogue also played well and were clear runners up. Danny was also an NTP winner.

Mary can be seen below responding to the Runner Up presentation.

The NTP winners were a closed shop with the ever consistent Cliff Henderson winning two Pins.

Another highlight of the day was members sharing a celebratory drink with the Men’s Pennant team who were one win short of District Champions doing the Club proud for their 2014 effort. Well done guys.

If the great golf was not enough Denise proceed to draw husband Ken’s lucky number in the raffle draw. When it’s your day in the sun, it sure shines.

Golf is always worth being part of at Club Banora.

Men’s Pennant Team Fairy Tale Season Closes with a Final Defeat

After a wonderful season where our Men’s Pennant team qualified for the final for the first time since 2009, the final win proved to be a Sunday too far away.

The fairy tale season completed with a 5 / 2 defeat that was closer than the raw numbers show.

Well done to Captain Nigel Luxton, Lead Player Michael Wood, John Baddeley, Max Jessop, Geoff Abbott, Richard Quine and Barry Jurd.

Captain Nigel said he was very proud of the team. The Boys played well through the first nine  today but the back nine proved the difference.  The team played all season.

Special congratulations to Barry Jurd who won in every round and today came back from one down at 16 to win one up.

John Baddeley won 5/4 today and was only defeated once during the season.

Men’s Captain, Mike Flanagan said ‘It was a great effort for the Club, especially considering the change the Club has been through and the Team gave us something to celebrate.’

Well done – Left to Right – Geoff, Richard, Michael, Barry, John, Max, Nigel.
