2014 Men’s Match Play Championship

Over the past two weeks or so since the 9 Hole course layout was introduced and members who qualified for the 2014 Men’s Match Play Championship have been canvassed on their continued interest in the Championship.

Thank you to the majority who are keen to play.

If the Championship commenced this Saturday as rescheduled there would be an unreasonably high number of forfeits. This would not be helpful for the credibility of the Championship.

In this context the Men’s Match Committee is providing qualifying members until this Saturday to confirm their participation.

Beyond that point an updated match play draw will be created to allow the Championship to commence on 5 April.

Match play qualifiers should check the website and notice board for the updated Championship draw.

Ladies Captain Vacant

The Ladies Captain remains vacant.  Myra Biggar, Ladies Representative, will continue to manage Ladies matters.  Thank you Myra and to those helping her.

Ladies prepared to help with the Captain’s role should advise Myra, Rosie or Penny.

Sunday Competitions

Sunday competition remains strong at Club Banora with the 16 March Shot Gun Start Texas 4Ball attracting one of the biggest fields for the year.

Members agreed that next Sunday, 23 March will also be an 11am Shot Gun Start and that the following two weeks will be regular tee times starts from 9.45am to 11am.

Last Sunday also marked the return of Ken Mount to the presenter’s mike. Thanks Ken.

Ken is shown below at the prize table being assisted by newly appointed Men’s Representative, Barry Jurd, after presenting to the day’s winners Colin & Maureen Giles and Shirley and Ivan Stringer.

The Giles and Stringers played very well and won by a convincing 6 shots over Runners Up the Culpitts (Roy, Bev, Don & Denise).

The Runners Up also played well and finished 5 shots ahead of third place.

The two teams were by far the best groups to handle the extremely windy conditions.

Nearest The Pins were mostly shared between John Edwards who won two and Winners Ivan, Shirley and Maureen.

Mardi Mason, Rosie Connolly and Bev Culpitt also played terrific shots to gain a share the NTP ball prizes.

Handicapped Competitions Recommenced

GolfLink handicapping for competition events recommenced today with the Vets Single Stableford competition.

Well done to Wayne Howlett on his first competition day as Vets Captain.

Ladies Representative, Myra Biggar is carrying Captain decisions until a Ladies Captain is identified.  She has the option of handicapping the Ladies for tomorrow’s single stableford competition.

Club Banora Golf is well advanced towards business as usual.

Update on Committee Casual Vacancies

Matters continue to move at a fast pace at Club Banora Golf.

Members with strong relevant experience have come forward to fill all the vacant Committee positions of Vice President, Secretary, Men’s Captain and Ladies Captain.

Twin Towns Executive have clarified that the Golf Section committee can fill casual vacancies at their next committee meeting by considering expression of interests received by that time. This is the same process which all other internal sections use to fill casual vacancies, the formal nomination process is therefore not necessary.

Given the strong support for vacant Committee positions since Saturday’s AGM and the urgent need for the Committee to set direction consistent with the revised 9 Hole golf course configuration, the Golf Management Committee will fill vacant positions at its next monthly meeting on Thursday, 20 March.

This action brings forward the expression of interest process to 2pm on Thursday however expressions of interest can be made to any Committee Member before that time.

More expressions of interest are welcome.

The Twin Towns Executive has further confirmed that choice of vacant position occupant will be made by the existing Committee members, President, Ken Culpitt, Treasurer, Ray Tume, Veterans’ Captain, Wayne Howlett, Men’s Representative, Barry Jurd and Ladies Representative, Myra Biggar.

The Twin Towns advice is based on the Golf Club Constitution Section 6 (x) as follows

6. POWERS OF THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Without derogating from any general powers the Management Committee shall have the power from time to time to:

(x) All casual vacancies occurring on the Management Committee between Annual General Meetings may be filled by the Management Committee

and any such appointee shall hold office until the conclusion of the next Annual General Meeting as if that appointee had been appointed at the Annual General Meeting.
