Men’s 2013 Season Closes on High Note

Congratulations to Men’s Captain, Mike Flanagan and his team for adding an extra Monthly Medal to the Banora Golf Calendar.

Also to the members who so strongly supported the major Calendar event. The field size was a near year high. Great read of member requirement Mike.

The outstanding performance that Robbie Evans provided on the day was the highlight of not only 2013 but arguably the best single round since the course opened in 1983.

Congratulation Rob for your 65 which is being considered for club record status. Seven birdies and an eagle at 15 provided a substantial gap to the next player. Terrific effort!

Off plus 3 Rob’s Nett 68 was beaten on count back by Greg Mc Clymont who also played a high quality round.

In B Grade, Michael Pitt was a two shot winner over Clint Dunn who also played well. C Grade was won by John Rayner on a count back over Neil Hourigan.

Well done winners Greg, Michael and John!

The last day of the 2013 season allowed thank you to the Half-Way House ladies who serve the Saturday players with good cheer and empathy throughout the year.

It also allowed reflection on the quality of service provided by Mike and the strong band of Men’s Sub Committee members. Good job guys.

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.

15 December Competition

Sunday 15 December marked the last Sunday presentation for 2013.  A moderate field of 28 played a Stableford competition in hot conditions where the light breeze was a comfort bonus.

Congratulations to Wayne Martlew for his good score of 38 points, one ahead of ‘I-never-win’ and Runner Up, John Edwards.  Some members voiced a view that John wins more than his ‘I-never-win’ nick name suggests.

Also congratulations to Ladies winner, Pauline Ryan with a very solid 40 points and comfortable winner over Runner Up, Kaye Mills who also broke her handicap with 37 points.

Ladies’ Nearest The Pins were evenly shared between Kaye Mills, Jenny Poolman, Rosie Connolly and Penny Martlew.  Nice work Ladies.

Men’s Nearest The Pins were dominated by Roy Stephen as he has through many events in 2013 and also by regular visitor, Peter Stewart.  Well done guys for evenly sharing the Pins.

The Presentation provided an opportunity to thank Betty for her dedication to managing the North Estate sponsored player raffle throughout 2013 and President Ken presented her with a small Christmas gift from the members.   Ken also used the occasion to reiterate member thanks for the year’s support by the Half Way House staff and presented Pam a small gift.

Men’s Representative and Sunday Competition manager, Ross McMahon announced there would be no presentation on 22 December and that on 29 December the daily event would be arranged by the Pro Shop.

December Monthly – 21 December

During 2013 rain, course refurbishment and other factors have impacted on Monthly  Medal rounds.

The Men’s Sub Committee along with the Pro Shop and other Monthly Medal sponsors have agreed to include 21 December as a monthly medal.

Good golfing to all members who are able to take advantage of this opportunity.

Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year.
