Ladies Results 27th August 2013

Ladies Single Stableford 27th August 2013
The winner today was Dorothy Biggs with a lovely 46 points from Jenny Mayo on 42 points.
The conditions were ideal with many ladies breaking their handicaps
The ball rundown went to 38 on a countback.
Nearest the Pins were Coral Keating on the 3rd and Robyn Beattie on the 12th

Gold Coast Ladies Pennants

Our ladies performed very well against Arundel, unfortunately they were defeated 3-2. This result, however, does not indicate the standard of play that our ladies exhibited. They had to give quite a lot of shots to their opponents and handled themselves extremely well. We are very proud of their efforts.

Results25Aug – Stringers Respond with Strong Win

The 25 August medley competition provided many notable outcomes.  Importantly the Stringers in combination with the Masons triumphed making some amends for disappointment two weeks earlier.

The competition day was sponsored by the three generation Culpitt Family – Roy & Bev, Ken & Denise, Don & Denise, Rick & Hanna and Dean & Shae.    Thank you to the Culpitts for the Texas 4Ball competition and for the prize pool of vouchers, balls and wine.

The day was well supported and most players stayed / returned for presentation.  Rosie Connolly and John and Liz Edwards also joined the Sunday night festivities bringing tails of their golfing adventures at Bonville.

Congratulations to the team of Ivan & Shirley Stringer and John & Mardi Mason.  Their performance dominated the day winning by ten points.  They scored well on both 9s and were well served by Mardi and Shirley with their NTPs at the 8th and 12th  Good drives set the scene for high scores but it was the short game with a number of putts that the television Pros would be proud of that sealed their terrific result.  Well done to the winners (the four to the left) who can be seen in the photo below receiving their prize from the sponsors (right side).

25AugWinnersandSponsors

The competition for Runner Up was a much more competitive one and determined by count back.  Congratulations to Danny & Mary Minogue and Roy & Stephen for their great team work.  Both couples have experienced other 1st / 2nd placings in August and Sunday was another demonstration of their good golfing skills.  The Runners Up are to the fore in the following photo with the sponsors.

25AugRunnersUp

On the other side of a kind August was the team of John Skerry, Rhoda Way, Pauline Ryan and Max Jessop. The team comprises long standing members who are consistently skilful at making their way around the Club Banora course. While their game management ability is as good as any and better than most, it did not prevented them from being beaten twice on count back in August, both Best Three to Count Stableford events. On each occasion they were extremely competitive on the front nine – today only one Stableford point back. The following photo shows John, Rhoda, Pauline and Max at the presentation. It is reasonable to expect that the tide will turn and we will see this team at the head of the Sunday leader board in the near future.

25AugBeatenOnCountBack

The sponsors provided a rundown list of two teams and then took the novel approach of drawing ‘prizes’ from the raffle barrel for those who had not already won a prize. The draw from the barrel went on for some time as the prize pool of Red and White wine was fairly lengthy. When the draw was finished most members had a prize of some kind. The following photo shows many of those drawn from the barrel receiving their prize. The photographer was not quick enough to get all the wine winners.

25AugWineWinners

Thanks to the sponsors for the fun day and to the members for making it another enjoyable Sunday at Club Banora.

24 August – Volvik Invitation Day – Comp Entry $15 and receive sleeve of balls

The 24 August Volvik Invitational Day was a great success with a twelve month high competition field of 162 players.  The field included 16 visitors and reflects the strong support given to the event by members and the Men’s Sub Committee through promotion.  The Volvik sponsorship combined with Tour Edge ensured that all players received a sleeve of balls and the opportunity to try the high end Tour Edge fairway woods.  The presentation where over $1500 of prizes were distribute was arguably the highest attended this year. Well done to Men’s Captain, Mike Flanagan and his team ensuring the Volvik invitational was a 2013 highlight event.

The extensive prize pool was distributed through a single run down list of all player nett scores.

PrizeDisplay

The best score of the day was 43 points achieved by Dennis Jones and Brian Brown.  Dennis scored better on the back nine and had first choice of the prizes, winning on count back.  Dennis selected a Tour Edge hybrid as his prize and next to choose, Brian selected the first of the classy golf bags.  Mark Kenny and Martin Rowntree placed next with 42 points and Mark had next prize selection on a count back.  Mark selected the Tour Edge Driver and Martin was very happy to take the other high end golf bag on offer.

The following pictures show prize winners being congratulated by the Men’s Captain; firstly with Brian, next Mark and lastly with Martin.

MajorPrizeRUaSecret9MajorPrize4th

The Tour Edge representative provided all players with a chance to use their fairway woods and to produce the straightest drive of the day challenge.  As might be expected the field of 160 plus players produced all variety of hits. Some were near the target straight line to stray hits either side of the fairway.  One 3 wood hit was measured at over 240 metres, not bad into the high afternoon wind!  The straightest was only a few centre meters off the straight line and congratulations goes to John Dalley pictured below receiving his new Tour Edge 3 wood.

LongestDrive

The Pro Shop major prizes of $140 for winning the Secret 6 and 9 holes competition was also presented with Tom Maye shown below acknowledging his 6 win. Mark rounded off an outstanding personal day by winning the 9 hole prize.

Secret6Winner

Nearest the Pin winners received three high end Volvik golf balls.
